hippo tang not eating

I purchased a hippo tang and it was suppose to be 3", but when I got it, it was only about 1".

The fish has been in the tank now for about 3 days and does not eat. Any advice out there?

I feed it mysis shrimp, brine shrimp and flake food with no results.

water conditions and all that are perfect, and no hostile fish

I don't want to rag on the company, because I have had good results with them before, but it was liveaquaria.com

I've had good experience from them as well. You might want to call their customer service and speak with them...they can tell you specifically what they have been feeding him before you purchased (as it might help to get the same brand).

It really helped me with a CBB I got from them almost 2 years ago.

As for other things to try...he might be shy of the environment (ie, your house surroundings). Placing a sheet over the glass of the tank might make him more willing to come out. You can also cut down on your light schedule.

As for food, green seaweed seems the best...but is even better if dipped in garlic before hand (might help attract the fish). Just place in a clip and put on the glass.

Hopefully all this works and you'll be feeding him like this in no time... ;)

Best of luck...

thanks for the advice. he swims out in the open, that is not the problem. He just won't eat. It just might take a few more days but i am just worried. I will call them now.

Like I said, every time I have ordered from them, they have shipped me good quality fish, but this time he was smaller then what I wanted.

Getting him to swim around is 1/2 the battle...IMO. It would be wise to call, like I stated, but the garlic should help as well.
