Hippo Tang with Popeye

All i'll explain my situation and then look for advice from you. I havea 55G tank established well. I just added a hippo tang who was stressed by the yellow tang, so the hippo developed white ich spots. The ich only lasted 3 days so i did not treat, his colors came back and ich disappeared however it looks like now he has pop eye. I do not have a QT and i have a reef aquarium. My Local fish store said that there are reef safe popeye treatments. What is the best medicine out there for this, i paid a lot of money for this large fish and dont want to lose him. What are you suggestions? Is this fatal ? Non of my other fish have experienced any of the symptoms the tang has.

I forgot to mention i checked my nitrates and if that is accurate using the API drops, i had a nitrate level of 40ppm. I have heard others with the popeye problem think it was related to nitrates and they did a water change and with days with no medication the eye cleared up. I completed a 10% water change and vaccumed the sandbed, rocks. Im hoping this helps.
