you could look them up on eBay. The sellers name on ebay is also hirocks. Just do a search then click the "ask seller a question" link.

that's 60lbs....do you think thats a good deal for 60lbs of base rock or could i get it cheaper??

You should be able to get Base Rock from an LFS for around $2US/lb.

There aren't any local fish stores here that carry base rock. They only carry live rock.

If your willing to drive over the border you can pickup at US airport.

TBS

why couldn't i just drive to tampa? they aren't very cheap anyways? $6/lb with rocks that have some coral.

get some fiji, Haitian or something. Hirocks, reefer rocks, reefbones...
You have to cure them forever to get all the sediment out.
FO might be OK, but certainly not reef material.

thats bullcrap... they are fine for a reef tank.

Thanks for being rude, and putting me in my place!

How do you know?

Try curing these in a bucket and see how long before they stop dropping sediment.

I have experience with all three brands (Reef Rubble will not drop anything because they are solid as rocks... they are rocks).

Reefer Rocks have been in the ground for 1000s of years...

Hi Rocks are some sort of cement reef rubble mix.

None of them are micro porous, so their anaerobic zone must be next to none?

All these rocks are deficient as filters in a reef tank, or even harmful.

Not a scientist myself... so IMO and I don't think my opinion is BS.

Thanks for being a constructive and helpful member of the reefing community! :bum:

sorry didn't mean to be rude, i accidentally used my wifes name on here but anyways. What i said is true because ive read about it 1000's of times on here and i have never heard a single person say they aren't good for reefs. Also the rocks come from a reef, so how could they be bad for a reef?

They are bad because they have been soaking in phosphates. They are not porous (though Reefer rocks can look cool with big holes). Even aquacultured rock thats been in the Gulf is a weak biofilter. It takes a long time for all those worms to make spongy patterns in the rock.

As I understand it, anarobic bacteria live in anaerobic zones. Those only exist in the smaller low flow holes of rock.

Take a big rock of Hi rocks out of your tank. It will drip for all of 10 seconds.
Now grab a chunk of Marshal... grab a sandwich, kiss your wife, go to work and back... its still dripping.

Thats where the yummy bacteria lives.

HTH JIMO and anything else that says, "consult a scientist, but I am pretty confident I got it."
