HOB Refugium

I have a rimless tank and a very small sump which will not provide for an area to have a refugium in the sump. So I was wondering if anyone had any experience with the HOB Refugiums? I realize that it will certainly detract from the "rimless look" but I don't have other options such as a new sump or remote fuge due to location/space of the DT. The purpose for the fuge is to have a place to populate with pods and copepods without predation.

Thanks in advance for your help.

I realize this isn't the most exciting topic, but I would like to know for those that purchased a HOB Fuge....was it worth it?

i used to use one. not worth the hassle for me. i mainly set it up for fun. on a rimless tank it might put a dangerous amount of stress on the tank seams. unless you really need a fuge i think you shouldn't bother with it.

why do you want pods so much? trying to keep a mandarin?

Hey I just saw this post. I have a sumpless 40Br tank, and use the AeroFuge by CPR. I absolutely love it, but it does come with the skimmer included with it. They do make one without the skimmer, which I believe is what you're looking for.)

I'd show you a video of the tank, but the refugium isn't very view-able, and I stuck rock rubble in it. The refugium does not come stock with a light, you have to purchase it separately, but I do know of another option I've used that I've purchased online (I think they are even a sponsor here, but I need to check the name). Let me know, and I'll go check the brand name I got from a hydroponics store. I can't believe I can't remember the name, but it's a single T5HO with reflector. and it looks clean with an internal ballast.

I like to supplement for the Leopard Wrasses.

I was wondering about the stress it would add to the seams for the rimless I appreciate your response.

Electrobes: how has the HOB helped your system? Do you have a large culture of pods or reduced nitrates? Your breeder, is it rimless? Thank you for the reply.

I have a standard 40Br, and I use it for pod production mainly, the rest of the benefits are secondary. :)

THey are great, had one on my old tank and am looking for one for my new one. Continually feeds live food to fish and corals and stabilizes your ph if you keep the lights on at night. Good help with algae too as long as you don't expect miracles.

If you are planning on running the lights at night try to find one that isn't clear plastic....they can be very bright.
