Hold for Billy ARRGGHH

I think I am going have to mailorder my SPS because everytime I want something from AE it is always marked "Hold for Billy":p

Anyway that purple acro with the fuzzy green polyps is sweet and it even looks happy in AEs tank.

LOL You find that frustrating too??? I started to think that "hold for billy" was becoming a trademarked name for anything cool....

bbwahahaha...maybe someone should tell Billy about GIRS, that way you could atleast get frags.

;)

BTW...

Be sure you are quarantining any sps you are getting from AE as I did get red bugs from my large branching stag that I bought from him...

I am now red bug free for over a month thanks to a week of quarantine in Interceptor.

Make sure you are putting the corals in a high dose of Interceptor for at least 6 hours before you add them to your tank...

Let me know if you need any details on how to do this...

Oh Billy is Bgreenlee and where ragging on him to guilt him into frags.;)

My tank isn't ready for new corals anyway.

Billy's on vacation right now so his SPS will be sitting there for a while. He's setting up a sweet frag tank, so maybe some of those SPS he's got on hold will make into GIRS circulation.

einsteins: Please share your method for interceptor quarantine. I'll be setting up a new tank with SPS and I don't want to run introduce any dreaded red bugs.

Thanks

I wouldn't be too worried about redbugs. Although your pods and hermits might suffer, you can always do a full tank treatment. What you need to be on the lookout for is AEFW. Once those are in the main tank, it is all over. I no longer let any acros in my main tank without 2 months of observation in a seperate system. When i receive a frag I put it in a 5 gallon bucket treated with interceptor with a heater and a power head over night. The next morning i put the frag in my observation tank. Long term observation is the only way to be safe with AEFW. I wait 2 months and if i haven't seen any recession or signs of red bugs I transfer the frag to my display.

Thanks for the info. How much interceptor do you add to the 5 gallon bucket? And what is AEFW?

Thanks

Acro eating flat worms. Here is some good reading.

I am not that afraid of Redbugs. Some tanks including Paletta and many other tolerate redbug. The was a thread I was looking for that showed a bunch of rather nice tanks infected with redbugs. Also some fish eat them. Such as pipefish and Mandarins, and even reports of 6-line wrasses taking to them. Also there are decent treatment for them. That been said I don't want them either I am going to set up a QT when I get in a buying mood again.

I would like to avoid the monti eating nudis too.

Another acronym for you Al. I think I will be treating everything with TMPCC before I QT them too.

Hi all

I use a 10 gal aquarium that I have for quarantine.
I add enough water to keep the coral(s) covered and add a small powerhead for circulation..

I then use a 1/3 tablet of interceptor which is a very strong dose for that volume of water.

Disolve the fine crushed tablet in some tank water (this takes a while as it does not disolve easily) Next add it to the quarantine tank for 6 to 8 hours...redbugs are killed.

This is the redbug technic suggested by Borneman, he states that if at all possible the whole tank should not be treated.

here is the link to his treatment method... http://www.ericborneman.com/Tegastes-content/Treatment.html

Hope this helps

I certainly agree that Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Cure would be in order prior to the quarantine.

Thanks for the info Einsteins. I was following a thread some time ago about using interceptor, they were working out the dosing requirements. I never followed up on the outcome.

Thanks

I have them trained, if it looks nice they mark my name on it:D

I will be fragging the blue acro soon. My frag tank is almost ready so I will be fragging most everything I have.
