Holy Insane Flow Batman!!!

I just modded one of my MJ 1200s and let me tell you... IT'S WORTH IT! For those of you pondering the mod, do yourself a favor and take the leap. A word of caution though. If you mod a 1200, be prepaired to move some stuff around, as these suckers move an insane amount of water. I wasn't expecting the power I got from this thing, so as I was plugging it in, it shot out of my hand and across the tank. Once I got it unplugged, I kept a firm grip on it and plugged it back in. My tank is four feet long and I was holding it against the glass, facing the opposite side. The flow off the opposite glass was so strong, it was blowing my poor Hammer Coral sideways (back towards the side I was holding the pump on) and it's in the middle of my tank. I'm going to have to find a good angle to mount this thing and possibly re-aquascape, just so my LPS don't get damaged. I've got a mod kit on the way to do my second MJ 1200, but I'm kinda nervous about doing it. The modded 1200s would be perfect for a six foot tank, but may prove to much for a four footer. I might have to drop down to two 900s, but we'll see. ;)

I have a couple of old 1200's lying around. I've been wanting to modify them for a long time, but I guess I am too lazy to go into the DIY forums and read up on it. Any chance you could share with us how you did yours?

I don't have any pics from this mod, my buddy helped me out and he was going to fast for me to get any worth while shots. When I mod my next one, I'm going to take a lot of pics and write up how I did it. I'm going to show detailed steps and try to explain it so a five year old could do it, lol. The tutorials I've read seem to leave to many gaps in the steps and the details were vague and made the mod seem more difficult than it really is. The theory behind it is fairly simple and once you mod one, you should fly through any others you decide to do.

It basically turns it into a Tunze stream pump.

My friend modded his. It's an amazing amount of flow for such a little pump.

I'm running one opposite a 6080 tunze and flow ammount's are easily comparable. I'd say just over 2000 gph. I got the prop online at a rc boat site. It look's just like the tunze prop.

i had 87x flow in a 120.. i took out 2 of the seio 2600s cuz my lps wouldnt open up as much.. but my fish seemed so much happier and active with it.

i had to return a 1200 i was gonna use as a return pump from my sump but my overflow couldnt keep up with it, i had to go back to a 600.

I used the Dumas 3004.

Eric,

Thanks for the reply.

Could you try the octura 1435 with your 1200?

It is supposed to be about the best prop for the MJ 900, but should produce about the same flow with the MJ 1200.

Could save you from buying the new 900s.

Just a thought.

Has anyone else had good preformance with the octura 1435 and the MJ 1200 on a four foot tank?

very nice! I also have some mods laying around. I was curious if anyone has used the mods successfully on a wave timer?

So are these MJ1200's stronger than say a Seio 820? I think I'll make a poll about it.
thanks
Felix

Quite a bite stronger than a Seio 820. I have a 620 and this mod makes the 620 feel like a MJ400. lol
