By eventually do you mean one million years??? lol.

I agree. Polycarbonate is used in headlamps, bulletproof car windows, lighting lenses for buildings, police cars use polycarbonate dividers from the back seat. All of these uses expose the plastic to significant UV rays similar if not more than what they would experience in a sump lighting scenario. Peoples lives depend on them not cracking under these conditions. I'm not going to worry too much about UV and polycarbonate.

Personally I would use acrylic as well, It's cheaper, more rigid and scratch resisitant. I just wouldn't worry too much if I already had one or found a good deal on one.

Man is there are lot of misinformation here...

Instead of sorting it all out....

Lets just say this. If you have a local plastics shop, you can get CELL CAST acrylic for the same price HD is selling the EXTRUDED junk for. Can you use the HD stuff? Sure it's extruded, will absorb water to an extent and is harder to machine and is much more prone to crazing. Cast products are prefered.

Lexan... not worth the trouble. There are a dozen reasons not to use it. Cooluser, the products you mention are UV stabilized and very expensive to say the least.

Ok, to get back on topic...

If you want a 5 gal resivoir, why not a 5 gal bucket?

No acrylic required....
