home depot power compact desk light question

I bought a 27 watt desk light at the depot. I bought it for my desk. It has a power compact 4 pin bulb. Was wondering If this will wprk for a 5.5 gallon tank or 10Gallon. Its a nice light. Has anyone used this kind of light. Its made buy lights of america. Let me know what you think. I just spend 500.00 on a MH for my 55G tank. dont want to spend to much more. Im starting a nano thank. I have a 10G tank already. I was thinking of doing a 5.5 instead. Just because If the light works. It will be better for the 5.5 tank instead of the 10g
