Honduras or Belize?

I want to take my wife on a dive vacation for our 15th this fall
(it'll be our first time diving)
which would be better Honduras or Belize?

I hear the diving is pretty amazing in both places
Cost is about the same for the places we are looking at


where would you go?

I have not dived the reefs of Belize but I have in Roatan, Bay Islands, Honduras. If you want to go somewhere to dive, dive and then dive some more Roatan (or Utila) would be great. Check out CoCoView resort on Roatan. Its an amazing place to stay if you want to get 5 or more dives in per day. There's a great reef wall right off the resort that you can walk to from the beach. Their dive boats are very nice too.

i was on roatan last october during wilma. got about 5 dives in before the waves were really big. it was gorgeous. would go back in a second.

Great pics with great viz! I can atest to Belize... great diving and good wildlife. If I knew how to post some video I would. Great videos of schooling tarpon and I'm in the center!
Will a tarpon fit in my 90g!

Very nice pictures, aaah the memories....My wife and I just got back from Roatan, Honduras and are planning another trip later this year/early next year to the same resort (Anotheys Key Resort). Excellent diving, very nice and well kept for dive boats, excellent food.

that's one of the resorts she's looking at

she's looking more for the resort than just the diving
(until she goes diving of coarse)

how was the food?
difficult to get around/understand everything?

She likes the cottages over the water, how are they?

(too many questions, head about to explode)

adding up the costs from both web sites Belize is a bit cheaper

Keep in mind that Belize's official language is English. Honduras's is Spanish, IIRC. Not sure if that would make much of a difference to you.

You'll have no problems with language barriers at the resorts on Roatan. They all speak English as well as Spanish.

The food was excellent, breakfast usually consisted of a buffet with fresh fruits, cereals, breads, and then you could also order a hot breakfast if you wanted. Lunch was a buffet, probably because of the dive times and people coming and going, easier that way. Dinner or what I call supper, always had either a seafood dish or meat (beef, pork, chicken), two sides, and a dessert. The food was so good I tried both dishes almost every evening. The staff will even cook fish if you catch it, our instructor caught a wahoo and had it cooked up that night for everyone in the group to eat.

More than diving? they have that to, they have snorkling boats that go out a couple of time a day just like the dive boats, there is a very nice, new pool to catch up on some sun, dolphins right on the property which are very entertaining. And you can go to town if you want to visit and do some shopping. My wife did that one day when she thought the ocean was to rough. They also have horseback riding, or best of all just laying around doing nothing at all and relax.

It was pretty easy to get around, the resort picked our group of 37 up at the airport, to us to the resort took care of the baggage and everything. Very smooth, there are shuttles and taxi's from the resort so getting anywhere wasn't a problem. If you get a room over the water you get to ride a motor boat from the main resort over to the key where the rooms over the water are located. We had a room over the water and we both enjoyed it very much. We never knew what we would see in the water. Night time brought out other species, just shine the dive light in the water and you could see lobster, crab and some people saw eagle rays.

I was a little worried at first about language and money and even the water, but when I got all that worry went away. Very nice staff, they speak english very well maybe even better then some people I know. Everyone takes American money, I had to ask for some Lempura (Honduras money) and they chuckled when I asked them for it. The water was safe, I don't think anyone in our group had any problems drinking the water.

I could go on and on, but I would go back to Anthony's Key in a heartbeat no questions asked.
