They need a sandy bottom as they like to bury themselves. They will just come out at night after the lights have been off for some time. So your not going to see them that often. The ones that they sell are very small and they're not going to get that large in your tank. They're pretty save so I wouldn't worry about your clams.
Plus if you have a DSB, which they do need quite a bit of sand to be happy, they will eat a lot of the substrate fauna.. particularly worms. It is possible to keep the adults on shredded squid and raise the babies (1/4" to 1" carapace) on BBS/pods and such. But, not a good animal for a reef tank. The smallest ones will be males from the warm extremes of their range, such as in the seagrass beds of the Florida Keys, but even these guys get up to 5" across at the shell.
Just overall not a good reef tank inhabitant. Not a terrible idea in a very very large FO or predator system though.
