How can I get my anemone to host my clown fish???

i think its more a matter of the clown fish taking to your anemone.
first of all what species of clown and anemone do ou have. not all clowns will host in all anemones. i have a black saddle back that could care less about my rose bubble tips but every gold bar maroon i have ever had would hardly leave his BTA to eat. when he did he would usually give most of the food to the anemone. another example was a wild pair of percs i had that would rather swim in and around some grape cualerpa than a BTA.
i have also noticed that it takes a little while for clowns to even notice anemones let alone host in them. give it time and it may work out.

Its all up to the fish too! I have 6 different kinds of anemones in my tank LTA, Haddoni, Ritteri, BTA, Sebae and GBTA. My percula clownfish go in none of them! My tomatoes, go in anything, corals, everything! LPS, Toadstool tentacles. It also depends on what kind of clowns you have in there and what kind of anemones like exotic said!

If your clown is a tank raised it will not know what to do. I may tack a long time for the clown to learn what to do.

We have two tank raised Naked Clowns and two Anemones in our 90g. It took them 30 days or so to start hosting in the Anemone. We were lucky! For some it can take much longer, for some, sooner.

Having patience isn't always an easy thing. In this hobby, we learn patience very quickly! :)

Good luck!

Being Tank Raised has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with wether a clownfish will host in an anemone.

Many here on RC have WC clowns that never host. And other who have CB clowns that dive right into anemones upon being released into the tank.

It is totally up to the clownfish as to when, if ever, it will host and into what it will host. Some here actually have clowns hosting in Tridacna Clams.

I have 2 ocellaris clown fish and 2 bubble anemones the clowns have been in the tank since I have had it and I added the two anemones about a month and a half ago. But I was just woundering if there was some sort of trick that I could use. Thanks guys if anyone knows anything please let me know.

It might take more time for an Ocellaris to host. I've seen people get the clown to go into the area where the anenome is and put a really large fish net over them. Eventually the clown goes to it. Might be a little on the cruel side but it works.

On the other hand, having a clown that is almost garanteed to host like a clarki clown doesn't hurt either. It took my clark no more than 24 hours to take to my anenome.

But you could try the net method.

I think what JENnKerry's trying to say is first you catch the clown fish you want to hoast in the net, then you put the net with the clown fish over the anemone locking the two together... this forces the clownfish to be in the anemone

On the less invasive side...

I've heard of 2 things that supposedly work. They sound funny, but make sense, kinda.

1) Print out a picture of a clown fish hosting in an anemone (I would guess for best results use the same kind of clown and anemone) and tape it to the glass where the fish will see it.

2) Buy one of those veggie clips that looks like a clown fish and place it near the anemone.

I've heard of both of these methods working, but they could be cooincidental.

LOL!! I've never heard of posting a picture of a clown hosting an anemone on your tank!! lol  I think that's cool if it really does work though! :D Erin

I can't personally attest to it working, but I've seen at least a couple of posters claim that it works.

From my limited experience, I think clowns do learn by imitation. Could just be our innate tendancy to personify everything, but it sure seems like it to me.

Perhaps RedHonda will try it and let us know?
