Ok, this is the down low, im re-building a 42,000 gallon tank and i want a sand bed of 4 inches for looks and filteration reasons. this will take 17,000 lbs of argra-sand, no prob. but what i really want is a 8" sand bed for max filteration, "nitrate". how concerned should i be about hydrogen sulfide? Im going to have divers going into the tank to feed fish as well "foot note". Help me out, im trying to thing out-side the box, can it be done?, if i can do it what should i think about, im thinking yes, give me the gas on this one. the tank will also have 20 tons of base rock, and a rk2 600 with ozone and the water source is the ocean. which is great but bad at the same time meaning high PO4 .50 ppm.

where is this tank at...i hope an aquarium.that would be super expensive to own.lets see some pics.good luck with the build

from what i've read, eventaull a dsb becomes used and you have to change out a portion of that sand out yearly. in a tank like that it would be a maintenance nightmare. however i'm not experienced enough to give you advice on a public aquarium sized tank, not sure if anyone else would be either.
