How do I calibrate/check temp probe?

How do you calibrate the temp probe. I have an AC3 and need to check the calibration of the temp probe to see if it is bad.

The only way to accurately calibrate a temp probe is to compare it against a NIST temperature standard. A NIST calibrated standard costs $45 -well over $500. Thermometers and such can have as much as +/- 6% (maybe more) so they would not be a reliable source to be used to calibrate.

Thanks Ken, so basically unless we pay "BIG" bucks we have to hope for the best with what we have. LOL I have cheap thremometers that read 3-4 deg less than the AC3 and my chiller reads 5-6 deg more than the AC3. This blows.

If you haven't performed a Init All or replaced the AC3 temp probe then my bet would be on the AC3.

There was a group buy some time back and a bunch of us purchased NIST calibrated thermometers, maybe someone in your area has one and you can check your calibration. The only other option would be to send it out to be recalibrated, or send one of the other devices out to be tested.

The important part in temp is stability so it may not be that big an issue.

if you really think your temp is off

what I have done in the past is to take several thermomitors
average the number and use that for the AC

but that is me

the best is always get a calibrated temp sensor and calibrate it to that.
