I lost a torch to this dreaded stuff, and now it seems to have attacked my hammer. So far only one of the two heads has it. I did a dip in lugol's solution this morning for 15 min. so now what? HELP!!

How long have you had the corals? When did you first notice the slime? What are your tank parameters?

It is an infection of the tissue, if you have other lps you might want to cut off the arm to save the body so to speak and dump the hammer. You could try to cut the compromised head off the hammer before it spreads to the others as well. I'm curious why a healthy coral would get the infection from the frog...

55G tank,SG 1.023,Ca 400,Kh 12,Ph 8.3

I am crossing my fingers that it might be okay, after the iodine dip, the one head stayed deflated for most of the day, but by bed time it was "normal" looking. I don't recall the torch ever touching the hammer,so can the parasite stay in the water and attack other LPS's?

it is an infection to my knowledge so it can probably be water-borne, maybe a uv sterilizer might help kill the bacteria in the water. Also the kh is a bit high for my taste, around 8-9 is better for the coral's health IMO. At 12 you are pushing it hard so it is more prone to stress/disease.

Try dipping it daily in lugol's, if you have other lps you might want to just throw it out...

from my last couple of bouts with brown slime it can spread from coral to coral in the tank .i am always really careful if a coral has it to get it in a container of its own to cut or do what i need to so that it doesnt get any healthy corals!then i dip in coral dip or lugols solution then place back in the tank and watch closely.i lost about 4 or 5 corals a while back when i was pulling a coral out that had it and i got in front of a powerhead that spread it all through my lps tank the next day it was everywhere!!!and the dremmel was busy that day!
