How do pods get from refugium to tank???

Will pods and other life get sucked up into the return pump and return to the tank alive or will they be shredded?

Would a gravity return be feasible? Above tank refuge is not what I want to do since my fuge is under the stand.

Some will get shredded, some will make it unscathed.

Most critters the size of pods will make it through the pump without any problems. To just guess, you'll probably lose only 5% of the pods that get sucked in.

so you guys are guessing or you actually have some way of knowing this? for example, have you read this somewhere where someone tested it or do you see them firsthand?

From first hand experience, quite a few will make it without being shredded.

Diferent pumps/ impellers would have different effects on the critters passing through. Pods are fishfood chopped up or swimming.

I've seen a clown goby go through a mag7, and be fine. You're pods are surviving, and I bet its much closer to 100% than it is to 95%.

Does having a sponge pre-filter on a pump affect how many pods get through?

Amphipods, probably, but copepods, not a chance. Theyre way too small.
