How do you drill a hole in tanks that are small?

My 2.5 is drilled, dunno if that is the one you are talking about, however I had to experiment first, and my solution was way off the wall.

I tried to drill the first 2.5 with a regular hole drill used to drill larger tanks (I have drilled dozens of tanks, ranging from (20-220 gallons, never cracked any). I cracked it when I went to push through, so I tried another and the same thing. Well, I decided to take out the back glass that was cracked, and I replaced it with a piece of acrylic I cut to size, and was able to drill a perfect hole in it in 20 seconds with ease.

I think if I had kept the first tank I would have tried to drill another hole in the back of it, this time though not try to push through, but take my dremel and finish the job once I had used the drill to get most of the way through.

Edit: I noticed your from raleigh, the drills I was using are the ones at Fish World on Capital Blvd, as I used to be a manager there Jeff let me go and try to drill the 2.5's, he wanted to see if it could be done also, he was surprised at my solution, hehe.

I thought you couldn't seal acrylic to glass. I have never tryed it, just what I hear. How did you do it?

it seals, it most likely wont stand pressures, with it sealed and equal pressuse on both sides(being under water) it will stay fine, if you tried to make a tank out of acrylic and glass, well have a mop ready

8 months and counting on my hybrid glass/acrylic tank. It has alot to do with it being such a small tank, theres not that much pressure on it, hell i have have a piece of rock leaning on it, and the circulation pump on the right upper corner is creating some pressure on it as well. Just gotta try new things sometimes.
