how do you feed your Sea Star in a bare bottom tank?

indian sea star

live aquaria says:

It is recommended to supplement its diet with small pieces of shrimp, mussel, or flaked food

but how do i feed it? do people actually place food beside them?

Yeah, in my opinion those instructions are generally BS. As far as I know, Fromia stars are organic film feeders. I don't know that you'd be able to stave off starvation by adding shrimp, mussels, or flaked food (that sounds like a ridiculous set of options, by the way, since there is almost nothing that you could feed all three of those things). People who keep them more-or-less successfully usually have a lot of glass and a lot of live rock surface area.

thanks this is exactly what i was thinking too! that's why i was worried that i had no sand because i feel like a lot of detritus food is missing for it to eat now. i really don't want to start dosing phytoplankton.. :(
