While I was away my fish in the qt died, before I left I knew they had ich. So I took down the qt and my question is how do I kill off the ich on the rocks? Will soaking them in freshwater be enough or do they need bleach?
If you leave it in the tank, and leave the tank fishless for long enough, it will die off with out a host. The stickys in the form will go over it for you.
Good advice above.^^^^^ Knowing the ich life-cycle is vital for any hobbyist and will help make sense out of all the mis-information on the subject. Read the stickies and plan on a fishless tank for 9+weeks; then use a QT on all new fish and avoid the same thing happening again.
Forms of the ich parasite can be anywhere in the system. Rock, substrate, filter media, etc. There is no reason to kill everything on the LR and inverts can stay in the tank.
I know that, I've read a few of the stickies, and I know the life cycle of ich.
It's just a qt not a dt so I decided I'd rather clean it out and cycle it rather than try to keep it cycled for 3+ months. I've bleached and washed the tank out with freshwater. I just want to know if I should also bleach the rocks?
