How do you know if frogspawn is splitting into two?

How can you tell that frogspawn is splitting into two? Yesterday my frogspawn retracted intself and all you could see is the hard white sell around it and small little tenticles on the top. Now this afternoon when I got home its has opened a little but it looks like its a separated in the middle and the tenticles are only on the sides. Ive had some bad luck with the coral I have bought from the local fish store and just dont want another dead one.

That sounds more like the head is dead/damaged to me. Splitting is a slow process with Euphyllias; not something you would notice over just a couple days.
Check out all your water quality params first off. Is there anyone who might be picking at it, or another coral close to it that may be fighting with it (something strong- Hydnophora, Galaxea, a Bubble... )

It still has a single head with two puff balls in it. I checked the water and everything is normal. The tenticles inside it are coming out a little more each hour but is still not fully exstended

Hopefully something just irritated it and made it close up strangely. Any chance of a pic? Keep an eye on it.

Sorry I dont have a digital camera yet...I have been watching it and it seem ok for now.
