How do you know when Monti cap is dead?

I added a red Monti cap to my tank early on. I realized my calcium was at 300 and started dosing, but I believe I may have killed my Monti cap.

I haven't seen any growth and it has greyed out significantly. I could have killed it with my LED too, but it's only a few inches off my sand and I slowly raised it up.

How do you know when it's dead and when to take it out of the tank?

Unless the coral is just bleach bone white, you might want to give it a couple months or so & see if it recovers. These corals don't need a whole lot of light, but your parameters need to be in order and remain stable for them to really thrive. GL.

FWIW I had this happen to a montipora one time too. It turned this awful grey color and I was just about to get rid of it because I hated looking at it. I gave it some time and it did bounce back for me. Just be patient.

What is this white on my Monticap. Been in the tank now for 6 weeks. Lights are the same. Ca 400 kh 8.5. Mag 1300. Zero ph or no. Any idea

Did you dip this? Could be damage from MEN. Or perhaps something else. Like like skeleton showing to me but sort of hard to tell from the pick.

I dipped it about 2 months ago when it went in the tank, the last 2 weeks or so it hasn't been looking good. I have growth on my acropora, maybe it's hogging all the calcium?

yeah as long as it's not totally white or growing algae, it could have a chance to spring back to normal in time. Don't fry it with high light either.

Do you see little polyps? If so, it's still alive. I have an Idaho grape that browned out under my LEDs after coming from a tank with MH. It then became half white- almost dead. I turned down the intensity of the LEDs and let it slowly acclimate over a couple of weeks, back in full force now. Look for the little polyps.

You know it dead if it doesn't move when a fork is stabbed into it. That was suppose to be funny. The more you mess with it the more likely it will give up. The coral in the picture is not dead.

It's still alive. + 1 on the smell test. It can be difficult to get your head in the tank though
But seriously if you can get it out it will smell to high heaven if it's dying. Also algae will be growing on dead spots.
