How do you properly frag Acropora?

I recently had a ballast stop working which powers my PCs and left me with 65w less light than normal. The light shift seems to have affected my acropora most significantly, first with the polyps retracting and now a few branches showing necrosis. I finally have a new ballast and will be replacing it today.

I assume that I should frag off the branches with the necrosis, but wanted to wait until the lights were all working so that I could provide the best conditions in order for the coral to heal from the stress of being fragged. I have yet to frag any sps corals such as my table top and am looking for advice on how to proceed. Should I cut frag the branch as close to the base as possible? Should I only cut as close to the death as I can get? What should I look out for when doing this?

Any thoughts on the matter will be appreciated.

Thanks
