How do you set up your D-Rebel for tank shots

I was messing with my camera last night and no matter how many times I played with my white balance I could not get it to get an accurate picture of come corals. It was close but not perfect. I put some paper under my lights and snapped a shot and loaded into custom, but it wasn't all that great, the auto was better honestly. How are you setting yours up. What other standard settings are reccomended for tank shots, of corals and fish too. Some general starting points and such would be great, I know this has probably been posted a billion times, but here's one more.

Thanks
Chris

I always had a hard time getting the WB right until I started shooting in RAW. Off topic, can this camera shoot RAW in macro and the other modes?

It was a little better at best, I found using the daylight setting on WB worked the best, set the iso to 100 and shot at 1/13 which seemed to be much better. I want to get a tri pod next and see how the pictures come out then

The builtin "modes" are all jpg only. You can shoot RAW in M, Tv, Av and P
THe built in mode worked on raw too.

You might want to double check that. You can select RAW as your format but as soon as you switch to one of the built-in programmed modes it records the image as a jpg. It's in the manual and I've verified it on my cam.

To clarify this You cannot use RAW format when you select a preset WB, or you cannot use RAW on one of the camera modes that are preset ie macro or landscape. I was taking pictures last night in Av and Tv mode with raw selected and a preset white balance of daylight.

Can you suggest a good RAW editing program?

I have PS CS will this do the job for RAW images?

Anyway you can walk us through a RAW basic edit?

Thanks.

You can use the eye dropper to sample an area of neutral color (white or gray), or you can set it manually via color temperature and tint.

Make sure you have the RAW plugin and you will be able to adjust the WB/color temp there...
I get exposure and color temp set in RAW plugin then open a copy in normal Photoshop...then its just adjustment layers from ther for final tweaking.

Hope that helps....

Here's an excellent (free on top of it!) RAW app called Raw shooter Essentials ---http://www.pixmantec.com/products/rawshooter_essentials.asp
