How does my new clam look?

I got this guy on Sunday. He's just under 3". I currently have him on the sandbed. My tank is 21" tall, and the 250w 20K is about 8.5" off the surface. Right now I'm feeding him DT's directly (cover with 2-liter top, pump in phyto, let him eat), is he big enough to stop the direct feedings and just feed the tank? Also, how does he look? He seems healthy, reacts to light quickly

watch the little bit of bleaching in the center of the mantle and watch and see if it continues to gap.....if its new give a a week and im sure it will be nice.....nice looking blue striations!!!!!

My clams did fine with just dumping DTs in the tank. I would "direct" feed them ever couple of weeks by turning off the pumps and jetting some DTs down to them with a turkey baster. Just to make a cloud around them.

trmiv,
Your clam looks very healthy. Good mantle extension. That is not gaping. Croceas keep their incurrent siphon open wider than other clams. It might close some as it acclimates, but some don't. It depends on the clam. I wouldn't worry about it.
You might want to move your clam up closer to the light. 20K has lower par and croceas like a lot of light. Did you put something under it. They seem to get irritated when only on sand. If you move it onto the rockwork closer to the light I wouldn't worry about it.
Good luck.

I put mine on a flat shell or a piece of live rock. I have tried to bury them, but as you know the little buggers shoot jets of water and uncover whatever they are on.

Thanks for the comments. It actually is on something. I have it sitting on a half clam-shell. I can't tell, but it looks like it's already attaching. My plan was to wait until it attaches to the shell, and then begin moving it up on the rockwork.
