How does pH affect sps?

I'm wondering how pH affects sps. For example, my pH generally goes between 7.8 and 8. If I can up the pH to 8.2 would I see any change in the corals? Better growth? better color? Or is it likely that I wouldn't see any change at all. If I should push it to 8.2 then I need to look into a kalk stirrer or something. Thanks for your thoughts.
