How far down is my torch skeleton dead?

So how far down is a torch coral's skeleton dead? I just got a green tip torch for 9.00$ with 4 live heads and 5 dead ones. I want to know if I can cut off the live heads and reef epoxy them to a rock to get rid of the unsightly parts. I need to know how high up I can cut without harming my coral. Thanks for any help.

You can cut/break/snap it anywhere past the fleshy part. You don't want to cut into the fleshy part if possible on a branching type.
