how far off the water should my lights be

Just purchase two 250 watt mh de lights for my 90 gallon tank. How far off the top of the water should my lighting fixture be. Thanks

Generally about 6+ inches is recomended. Mine are about 8 inches off the surface. You want to make sure that there is enough room for proper air passage as well as to prevent water from splashing onto the bulbs.

I am thinking of having my MH and my VHO about 8" off of the water.

my MH is 12" and is a 250w pendant over a 29 cube. I still have heat problems lol. Just keep a clip on fan and blow it underneath the Mh and towards the water to Speed up Evaporation and cool the water.
