How high a temp can you run a reef at?

I have been running my aquarium at about 79-81 degrees. During the day, with the lights on the chiller has to work pretty hard. I was thinking I may be able to run the aquarium at 82-83 or even a little higher and it would cut down on how much I have to use the chiller.

Anything under 85 is fine...........82 is fine i would say anything higher then 83 is a bad idea for long periods of time

Yeah, 82-83 shouldn't hurt anything. The first things to show stress would probably be corals under the brightest lights, so keep an eye on those.

I wouldn't go over 85 if you can help it. My tank last summer hit 90 every day for about a month. I never lost anything, but the tank just didn't look that good.

My bio-cube can get up to 83 during the day.

I'm hoping that the upcoming addition of a sump and air conditioner for my condo will bring that down to 79/80.

82-83 is about ideal. Anything below 86 isn't even a cause for concern. Above that keep a close eye on the temp and if it gets to about 88 take some action to reduce it.

I keep my 10g nano around 79-80 without a chiller, though I'm using a PC fixture. As far as temp goes, I think that most temperatures under ~82 are alright to run at.

I keep my 90 gallon at about 78-79. Everything looks good. I had a 24 gallon nano get to about 90 once and lost an open brain, but I wouldn't keep any tank over 83-85. Most of the Oceans in the world are much cooler at 75-78 degrees.

my corals overall were ok at my tanks highest around 84-86. But my anemone deflated and was considerably PO'd.
Brought temp down as 'slowly' as I could and it eased back into the groove of things.
So, dep. on what you've got. Cause most of my LPS were LOVING IT

Well, technically that's true. Most of the oceans in the world are right around freezing. The worldwide average range of reef temps is 76-86 though with the yearly average being about 82.
