How large will leather toad stools grow to?

In the wild, is there anyone that's seen these things monster size? Or do they max out? I've got one I've had for years, but it seems to really take off in growth once it hits about a foot diameter, then it just gets too darn big. If I let it go, will it stop growing once it hits 18"? Or will it grow to (many) feet in diameter? This guy has just about worn out his welcome.




It's about 14"x14"tall. Do they ever reach a max size?

I am no expert but according to the Animal World site a male will grow to 4x4x4 and a female 24x24x24. The Devils Hand Leather coral has been found in the wild at 3ft. Wow. http://animal-world.com/Aquarium-Coral-Reefs/Common-Toadstool-Coral

From my own experience with them, they are very toxic.

I had a toadstool that grew to ~24" diameter in my 170g tank (60"x24x27h)... Had to sell, was taking up too much space.

WOW, It is very beautiful. Nice full polyps and all. I know it would be hard to sell, for me anyways as you have watched and nourished it for ever.

Heres mine in my 180gl. It's bit over 14in. Got him year and a half ago at about 8/10in.

First pick when it was a bit smaller. had to rescape the tank to give it more room. I too would say it's taking up room. But positioned between rocks it has kept it's growth at a stand still.

I have thought about selling it, but it's the main conversation of the tank. So the Show piece will be here....a while longer....just a while.

@Dave, I too have seen that one, I believe at Danny pet world ? Kirkland ? It is a monster. Picture does no justice huh ? I guess it would be a few feet across.
