I just got my delivery this morning of blue mushrooms. They have been acclimated and are in a quarantine tank. How long should I wait before feeding them. All help is appreciated.
The only mushrooms I feed are the hairy's. I don't feed the blues and never seen them have a feeding response either. Just light is good for them in my tank and they spread quick.
Unless you've got sun polyps you never have to feed any of your corals, it's usually a myth LFS will tell you to get you to buy coral food. Most mushrooms grow pretty fast on their own without feeding, and unless they're hairy mushrooms or rics it's a pain to even get them to eat. Save your energy, money and water quality for other things
Light = coral food. Fish waste is also coral food, but my tank was fish free for over a year with no feeding and everything grew fine. I know several people with fish-free tanks, they're cool little eco-systems. The vast majority of people new to reefkeeping should steer clear of feeding corals imo, it's really not a necessity and there's too much of a tendency to overfeed and pollute the water, which at best causes corals to stop growing.
Well it doesnt really matter now because I woke up yesterday and the had disappeared. I have checked everywhere without moving my rocks. Anyone have suggestions
Were they well attached to the rock when they arrived, and where did you place them in the tank? Salinity and alkalinity can be the issue sometimes too.
when i first started my tank i made pretty much every mistake you could think of and never lost a mushroom. i've had them shrivel up, turn inside out, etc. but they've always made it.
i've heard of shrimp eating mushrooms before. or perhaps some other hitchhiker.
well checked the chemicals and parametersto make sure everything was ok and the salinity was at 1.032. Got it back down to 1.024 and still cant find them
