Hi - I wondered if anyone knew how long you could expect a cleanup crew to live?
I bought ~6 red legged hermits, ~8 blue legs (v. small) and ~8 turbo snails about 2 years ago for my 30G FOWLR. A year ago I upgraded to a 70G and noted as I transferred the stock that only about half the critters seemed to still be around.
Just recently I did another check and seem to have just one red legged and one blue legged crab and half the snails.
Now, more by luck than skill, I have no algae problems at all apart from a hard green coating on the back and side walls that the snails feed on constantly and wondered if I had too many crabs and some had starved? Does this seem very likely? Like I say my tank is 70G with 40Kg of living rock, 1 (big) mushroom, 1 yellow tang, 1 copper band, 1 clown, 1 scooter blenny, 1 sulphur goby. All water parameters are very good. 120W of T5 lighting. Red Sea skimmer, 1 - 2" of live sand.
The fish are fed once a day on marine mix and cyclopeeze that gets blown all around the tank by the powerheads so I thought the crabs would gets some but maybe not?
