Does anyone listen to the recommendations on the food products?
How long do you keep your food
Flake?
Pellets?
Freeze dried?
Thanks all

I personally keep my pellets until they are gone. This may be several years. Don't really know how good or bad that is.

I only use frozen food, and i keep them as long as it takes me to run out. Somtimes that can be 5-6 months for a certain thing like blood worms...

If the food has an expiration date, I throw it out when it gets to that point. It's not worth saving a couple bucks to feed partially decayed, less nutritious food. I think the expiration dates are there for a reason, if a manufacturer's food lasted forever, they'd certainly advertise it!

No more than six months for any dried foods like flakes or pellets (seldom an issues as my fish LOVE Prime Reef and go through a fair amount) and even less for foods in the freezer. Anything remotely questionable is tossed - the cats love old flake food, so it doesn't go to waste, but if frozen food starts to get freezer burn it's thrown out. I hate to waste it, but OTOH I adore my fish and refuse to feed them anything less than fresh, healthy foods.

I use about two dozen frozen foods in rotation and none last more than a couple of months. NLS pellets are gone in about a month. But, I'm feeding 1000g worth of fish across 4 tanks. If you're finding that your dried foods are last more than 6-9 months, time to buy smaller cans. On frozen, if you're still looking to provide a "mix" of foods in a smaller tank, it may be better to make your own. Or, you can look into the "Saltwater Multipack" from SFBB. The squid, though, may not be taken so readily by smaller fishes, and there's a lot of Artemia in the mix. The smaller packs of the frozen ON "formula" foods might be a better option there.
