die off of a rock if the rock is sitting in a bucket of fresh water.... i have had a rock in the bucket since moday night....

my second question, is if when you take the rock out (i need the bucket for a water change) is it possible to let some of the hydroids back in your tank even if you rinse the bucket out really really really well? thanks for the info...

Why would you want to kill hydroids..

Rather harmless creatures, and actually help out...

But I see where you're comin from, I had a massive reproduction of these things and they were everywhere! They went away over time though.. They always do... :)

they are harmless? i guess i had heard that they would cause devistation to corals in a reef tank.... am i thinking about the same thing? Little polypy looking things? look kind of like small feather dusters but more brown and smaller?

so, basically, even though i have taken the rock with the visible hydroids out of the aquarium, they are probably still in my water column in the free swimming stage... am i correct?

and is it true that they will eventually go away?

Fresh water is kinda hard on the ol' live rock. In case it comes up again, a month in a dark container of saltwater worked for me.
