How long in a bag?

When lurchasing a mew fish/invert/coral/rock from a lfs how long can they be in a bag before being introduced to the tank?

I am visiting family ~4 hours away and was curious if its worth looking while there.

They are routinely shipped overnight,etc.. without issue.. Which could easily be more than 12 hours

You might want to bring a small bucket or ice chest with you just incase you buy something. Having a battery powered air pump for the ride home would also help.

I have a 5 hour drive to one of my favorite fish stores. He will usually give me a reflective heat bag and a Styrofoam cooler to put them in if I don't bring one with me. Just be sure to acclimate properly.

You don't have to do this, but it wouldn't hurt. The ambient light in the room should be more than enough for the fish to get situated.

The 4 hour drive shouldn't be an issue as long as you can adequately maintain the water temp.
The real key is acclimation once you get them home.

Yeah I live in Texas and drove from Houston to Dallas which is about 4 1/2 hours and everything survived in bags no problem. As long as you don't leave them in there a whole day you will be just fine

That being said I did not have time to go and look at the LFS by them this trip. Maybe next time.
