How many AI 12" on 180?

I have a 180 gallon tank and want to switch to LED lights. Its really just FOWLR, does anyone know how 2 12" AI LED lights would look?

I'm in the same boat as you but i want to do reef. I think 2 would leave a big gap with no light or dark spots. I thing you at least need 3 to illuminate the whole tank.

why would you want to spend 1,000 dollars on lights when its just going to be a fowlr?

you will need at least 3 if your tank is 6x2x2

I second htis...Man, just get a couple 3 foot double T5 lights and be done with it. Spend the $800 you'll save on a cool Angel.

you can go two Maxspect G2-170 they're 32" fixtures so should cover your 72" length tank pretty well i have two on my 84" long tank and it covers the whole tank without much of dead spot.

I've got 2 400W MH's now, and am trying to save money on bulbs/energy. Used to do reef, but havent been able to put in the time recently, will likely go back to reef in the future. I also like the shimmer.

THe Maxspect G2-170 looks pretty cool - you're happy with them?

Build it yourself. It's not that difficult and there are a ton of threads on it and guys who know what they are doing that will answer your questions.

3 would work on FOWLR. Mount them at least 12" above water line to get full coverage. I have 4 on a 180 reef and mounted 14" above waterline. I only keep leathers and softies with a couple of LPS. Mine run at 70%w, 50%B and 45%RB.

Good advice. For FOWLR, this would be sufficient. On my 8 foot SPS tank, I have seven.
