How many gobies??

Hi all,

I have a 28 gal AquaPod that I've been working on closely with the LFS and so far: Live rock/sand - 1 goby - 1 fire shrimp - 1 damsel - 1 clown - 1 royal gramma - 3 snails and 4 small (SMALL) hermits. The tank is fine, cycled no problems, I've done the water changes, no problems there either. So, how many gobies can this tank have?? I'd like 2 but am not sure if they are territorial or not.

Thanks!:p

Depends on the type of goby. You could put quite a few different kinds in there if you choose them right. What do you have and what do you want to get?

Oh yeah, net that Damsel and return it to the store as soon as you can.

Them damsels are DEVILS! U can put 2 gobies I have a 30gal and have a sandsifting speckled goby and a yellow clown goby. No issues whatsoever.

Why are they so bad? The little tiny 3 stripe ones that stay around the rocks look look nice with 3 or so of em. Do they get mean when they grow up?

I had a diamond goby once, It was the coolest fish I ever had.I could watch it sift sand all day.the problem was he made my tank really cloudy all the time, I looked like crap. so, back to the lfs he went.

Damsels are cheap and cute when they are small but become very aggressive & territorial as they age. Trust me. I have a yellow one that kicks up more sand than any goby you'll ever find and tries to start crap with the other fish all the time. I did recently put a purple tang in that put a stop to the damsel bullying, but it still makes a mess and bites me when I clean the tank. He will be trapped and "neutralized" by the end of this year.

Yes they can get fairly mean. I would get rid of the damsel too. There are much better fish out there anyway. Lots of fish will bite you. Maroons can draw blood when they are big enough. My female ocellaris bites me on occasion, but it doesn't hurt that bad. Just surprising...
