How many Powerheads

So I am going to have a 127 gallon, 5x2x20.5" tank. Was thinking of using 2 MP40s on opposite ends of the tank creating alternating flow through one of their programs. Will that be "enough" for a mixed tank, focusing on SPS as I go on? Or should I get a MP10 to put on the back of the tank to create more alternative flow? Based on Vortech's website 2 MP40s are more than enough but figured I would ask the crowd who have had 5 ft tanks.

Yes, depending on how you do your rock work so water flows throughout the tank and there's minimal dead spots. I'd also point the returns up at the surface to brake up the surface. I have 2 on my 6'x2'x21.5" and it's fine.

Just for perspective in my 80G I have 2 mp10's on 90% reefcrest mode, and 2 pp8's on the back glass alternating current from 20 to 80%.

It all depends on your rock work, but in general I would think you should be fine. A couple "cheap" PH to test wouldn't hurt either. If you find you like having more flow with the extra "cheap" PH, then splurge for a couple more mp40's.

I will also agree with the above that an mp10 might not be able to hold onto your glass.

Ok thanks for the feedback. Glad to see I was thinking along the right path. And, a good idea on getting a cheaper PH if I want more flow. And my back glass is 15mm, so a MP10 may not work is probably right.

Cheers!
