How much light for a ricordia?

I have had the ricordia you see on my avatar for about 3 weeks now. When I bought it, it was attached to a rock, and I set it on the sand, so it is about 12" from the 18W stock lighting. It seemed to be doing okay, but it slowly released itself. It managed to break free, which of course meant that the current swept it into a cave.

I was able to rescue it today after several days with no light. It is not currently attached to anything. I'm assuming that it detached because it didn't like where he was. So the question of the day is - what does he want? Where should I put him in the tank? How much light and how much flow?

It is 18W PC. It's a 6 gallon nano, so I'm running 3W/gal, which isn't bad.

I think different types like different lights. I can't see the mouth on the pic, is it a flordia or yumma? (bumps up around the mouth is yumma)
My yummas like more light than my flordia rics. I have not had a yumma jump off a rock, but I have had a flordia. It has been 2 months since it jumped off its rock, and still has not attatched again. It is attached to some crushed coral, but I want it on a rock. If it is on a rock I don't have to worry about it getting moved. Good luck, and try the mushroom forum.....

Good idea with posting this in the mushroom forum. FYI WPG is a horrible way to figure lighting. It is the intensity of the light not the watts. 150 watts of pc isn't the same as 150 watts MH. I know I'm giving a larger scale here but you get the icture.

The orange ones are pickier (if I remember correct) I don't know if that qualifies as orange, but it is partially orange.....Maybe someone in the mushroom forum could be more help.

I have multiple variations of both florida and yumas and before I upgraded to metal halide they did just fine under 13watts of PC in my 4 gallon.

I have florida's in my 24 nano w/ 72 watts pc. I had a blue flordia on the sand and it detached. I also had a pair on a rock that was in the lower middle and their doing fine. I had a single orange in the lower middle which was doing fine, but I moved him middle high and after a week he got two mouths. I dont know if it was going to happen anyway or if the placement promoted this second mouth.

Any with all that said, in my tank middle to middle high seems alot better then in the sand. I think if you had MH then the sand is where you want them. Also, it seems directly under the light is the best, rather then off to the side or in a corner where the light isnt as powerful.

I have the orange/green ric's in my 12g nanocube with 69w PC and they are doing really well. I started with 2 and there are now 5 all about 2.5"-3" in diameter. There are some on the sand and some up on a rock. Definitely a low flow area. I also put one in my 55 gallon with 500w of MH and it did not like it at all. It never fully extended, and gradually died. So I think the best for them would be moderate lighting and low flow. Your 18 watts it probably not enough. Try putting him up as high as possible and see if he does better. Make sure he isn't in high flow though. HTH

I'm actually looking into an upgrade to 54W, and one of the reasons is so that placement isn't an issue.
