How much Seachem Matrix can i use in my tank?

I have nitrate issues and i have some Matrix and Denitrate. My tank is a 60 and 24 sump, so probably really 50-60 gallons. Can i run more Matrix than it says on the bottle? I have like half a cup in the sump in a high flow area. Can i do more?

Let it work for a couple days then test. Also suggest a 20% water change.

Try to find the source of your nitrate build up and eliminate that.

You can add more Matrix than direction. For more effect, dose carbon source that is used by nutrient reducing bacteria (vodka, vinegar, Sea Sea NO3O4-X ...), adjust your skimmer to export more.

If you are trying to lower nitrates with denitrate or matrix( which is actually the same) it will not work in high flow areas. Go to Seachem's website to get specific details as how to use this product for nitrate reduction. Using it this way will give you more space for bacteria to break down ammonia and nitrite but not nitrate.

I use the manufacturers suggested amount along with a bag of Chemipure Blue. Seems to work fine.
