How much to feed a Puffer

I currently have a spiny porcupine puffer that I recently aquired. It is eating good and every thing.:fun4: I'm just worried I might be over feeding it. It looks like it has a beer belly. I'm only feeding it about 1 shrimp a day, plus any scraps it might be picking up around the tank from feeding my eel. Just seeing if I should feed every other day or maybe even twice a week. Thanks for the help.

We have a 8 inch porcupine puffer that is an eating machine. I feed him once a day around noon right before I go to work. Sometimes I feed him 2x a day. I will usually feed him about 2 shrimp a day. I too also have a barred eel and he has figured out the feeding stick I use to feed the eel has food on it too and will come all the way from the otherside of the tank.

I feed my dogface 3 half clams (in shell) every 3 days. He gets mysis everyday. Just try to watch how much you feed your porc, because he/she WILL poop a lot. That's the one thing about puffers/porcs.:crazy1:

Does yours have a pot belly like a pregnant woman:D

Mine doesn't touch clams. I've only been able to get it to eat shrimp and shrimp pellets. I've tried clams and squid as well, but no luck. Should I let it go hungry for a couple of days and try then?

Mine will overeat to the point it looks pregnant if I let him. He tries to take food from everybody, really annoying.

Some puffers will eat till no end. Might be some sort of fish eating disorder. lol. This reminds me of the lionfish we had when I was little. It would eat minnows as long as you kept adding them. It once even grabbed a second fish while the tail of another was still sticking out its mouth.

Yes I do now feeding them minnows it bad and that was about 25 years ago when the hobby was far from refined as now.

I had a porcupine in the past and have a spiny box puffer now i have always followed the rule you feed them just enough so that there belly will begin to buldge ever so slightly. you should feed between one and three times a day if possible. If you are feeding him one shrimp try cutting it in half since he is also eating the scraps from the eal. how big is your puffer and how big are the shrimp.
