it's about 1.5" across, about 15" from a 150w 10,000k MH lamp. keeping it on the sandbed for the time being, as i just brought it home. i'll move it onto the rock in a week or so. in the meantime, how often should i be feeding, and what - dt's?

As long as you have a good number of fish..you dont need to feed them.. you have the right lighting.. but if you wanted to feed dts would be good.. its a live phytoplankton

I agree completely with acrodave. Generally, you don't need to add anything extra to a tank specifically for the clam. If you do decide to add phytoplankton (like DT's phytoplankton), just make sure you broadcast feed it to the entire tank. Don't direct it specifically at the clam as that would be far too much phytoplankton for the clam to handle all at once. As acrodave said, lighting is the real key (OK, he didn't say that specifically). As long as you take care of that and water quality, everything else should take care of itself.

if your going to use dt's just be carefull cause under close observation in a microscope i found most of the dt's phytiplankton i have bought to be dead for the most part. im paying the extra money for the live and ended up getting a lot of dead. just be careful.

Out of curiosity, how did you determine the algae was dead? Is it just apparent looking at the cells, or is there something specific you look for?
