How Open is Too Open?

My new Derasa (in tank one day) looks fine, open, etc.
but today the larger of the two "mouths" is noticeably
more open than yesterday . The clam is aabout 4" and
the "mouth" today is an oval about 1" by 3/8". Is this
normal and yesterday small, or was yesterday normal and
today small?

when clams are moved it really stresses them out. the mantle looks fine, give it a few days to settle in.

You left the apostrophe out of "how's" (contraction of
how is or how was)

Thanks, I tend to obsess over new additions to my tank
and have wanted to successfully keep clams for over
20 years.
