How Potent (Home-Made Food)?

Frozen brine do not seem like much compared to the same size cube of my home-made food (based off of steven pro's recipe).

Should this type of food be fed only once or twice a feed like DT oysters? I blended this stuff so fine that you can not make out any particles, the fish do not have much of a chance of getting at it, it seems.

Any recommendations?

I wish I could set up a "fish goop reactor" installed in my fridge, that way I could have consistent drips of food going into my tank, like in a real reef.

it's not really about how often it's how much is wasted... if you are dropping food in your tank then you want to watch how often you are feeding cause alot of the stuff will collect on your rockwork and stuff then jack the nitrates... but if you spot feed and are careful about the extra that's going in your tank you can feed daily...

Try making food again. Blend 1/3, add another 1/3 and blend, add the last 1/3 and blend again. With practice you'll have fine, medium, and coarse food. Also if you try to make too large of batches you'll end up with the puree you mention.

My home made food is fed twice daily.

Great points, Noc and Agu.

Next time I make food I will do the different coarseness option, that way my fish can get it easily and I can have some food for feeding sps and another for just the fish.

I was actually going for something that all of my filter feeders could easily eat. The clowns seem to be able to get a lot of the little pieces but the Tomini only gets the random big chunks in the mixture.

I usually just feed a small (egg crate size) cube right before lights out and turn the skimmer off. With all of the fish oils the skimmer goes nuts. I do this in hope that all my corals will go crazy over it.

Lately I have been doing a cube of brine at noon and a cube of home-made at 10:00 in the evening. I may start doing the home-made less often.

Yeah I have having a difficult time since my tank is 55 gallon with no sump. I think all of the brine i feed gets eaten or skimmed out pretty quickly.

With only one large fish I do not think I have enough poo in the system to feed my sps. This is why I used the finely blended homemade food.

How much and how often to feed the home made food is in debate.
