Red crab was kool 6 months ago Now hes eating all my hermits, snails, and trying to eat my fish at night!! I feed him krill but he want everything! Before I LOSE IT and rip everything out to catch him, anyone got a quick DIY trap? THANKS!!!

Red legged hermits are fairly easy to catch in my experience. Just have patience. Wait until it is out in the open then reach in and grab in a get it. It'll hide in it's shell the second it notices you.

The little guy may also be looking for a new home. If you can, try to provide it with some larger empty shells. Until I added additional empty shells, my Ceriths had a very short lifespan. After a real quick search, item #200215549257 on eBay looks like it would work well :)

is it a red hermit or a red mithrax? If it's a hermit just pick it out. If it's a mithrax or similar crab, get a jar and burry it in the sand so that the opening is at sand level and then drops down. put some krill in it towards the back. He'll climb in to get the krill and won't be able to get back out.

You could try putting a piece of shrimp or mussel in a glass jar laying on it's side, in his general location and wait to see if he comes out to get it. You might have to do it a couple of time before you catch the right critter. And then when you catch him, just flip the jar up and pull him out.

Its A red mithrax, and he keeps on getting out of the freaking jar. Im gonna try a longer jar, maybe that will work, he,s done some serious damage to my CUC!!

you need a nice wide jar w/ a small opening, something like a pickle jar or something.. the slope of the neck has to be big enough to not be able to get out.

you could try this, i use to do it to crabs that lived at the bottom of the peirs in the harbor where i lived for a whie, just take some fishing line and tie some fish to the end of it. when the crab starts eating it just slowly pull it up, he wont let go of his free meal.

You could try cutting the top off a water bottle, inverting it, and then baiting it with fish/shrimp. This kind of trap works really well IME, but you may catch quite a few hermits and some bristle worms as well!
