Good afternoon ladies and gents im sure this has been discussed in a thread before. I did a search several times but looks like my searching phrases were bad. I came up with question after question after question asking how to fix it but no real answers.
After hrs of playing around with routers, the 2wire gateway and a gaming adpater, i was finally successful! I tried to open ports on the 2wire gateway and even though i had my custom firewall list setup and all looked right yet i could not get the 2wire gateway to forward the port to my APEX! so i decided it was time for a different plan of attack! hrs and hrs later this is what i ended up with.
so the how to:
1. Connect your Router to your 2wire Gateway
2. Enable DMZ mode(in 2wire Gateway) in the firewall page for your router, using the dropdown look for your routers name. Warning!!!! this will forward all request to the IP to your router(so its open!!) make sure your password for the Router is very tight! Use CAPS, Small letters, Numbers, and Symbols!!! yes all that and make it as long as possible! i know its a pain but this will secure your network a bit more.
Thats it for the 2wire Gateway no need to go back to it.
3. Setup the Wifi on your router and use the highest security you can(depends on your computer being able to handle it) once you reconnect to your router, setup the password to log into the router(again make it secure!!!)
4. Setup your Gaming adapter to connect to your router now, once you have successfully connected to your router and you are able to hit the internet go ahead and connect it to your APEX.
5. Set your APEX to DHCP
n and reset the APEX, when it comes back on check what ip address it pulled from the router and set your DHCP back to off.
6. Go ahead and connect to your APEX now(locally) By default it should be: HTTP://APEX. You should now see a pop up asking for user name and pass: default is admin: user name, 1234: password. Now go to configuration and go to network. Change the Port to what ever you'd like i went up to the 9000s.
7. Back to your router! go to the Port forwarding portion and create a new application. Should ask you to give it a name(i used APEX) the port you want it to use, and finally the IP(your local APEX IP that you saw on your screen) make sure it is TCP.
8. Still have that IP for your Router? its now time to test the connection!
Go to your internet browser and Type the routers IP:http://RouterIP: port you assigned to your APEX. Example: http://55.28.88.4:9010 you should now see the pop up asking for the user name and password!
Congratulations you can now use your android or I phone to check up on your reef while you are on the go!
I hope someone finds this helpful
