how to do fresh water dip?

I'm in on this one. How do you do it? I didn't even know that they used them for clams. What kind of lights are you using for your clam (wattage)?

NO, NO, NO!! You can not apply this to invertebrates, fishes only... Point with FW dip is to get parasites of fishes... You see, all marine invertebrates are really sensitive to low salinity levels so when you dip a fish to FW parasites fall off its body.. (black spot flatworms from tang, etc..) It would kill your clam...

can you post a pic of the clam?

FWD are very stressful to clams and i would hate to see you do it if it wasn't necessary

FWD are not very stressful on clams if they are needed. I unfortunately have been fighting PM with my clams and I have done 2 FWD for 20 min each. The clams respond better to light and show less signs of PM. You have to decide if the treatment is more damaging than the disease. In the case of a true fresh water dip vs pm I would choose FWD. The main thing with FWD is match the Temp and provide flow and O2. NO need to match ph if you use RO water.

can someone plz. explain to me what is "pinched mantle infection" or/and post up some pics..? Tried to look in Daniel Knop's Giant clams book for it, but didn't find anything.. (great resource, btw.)

i dont think it would be good idea to expose clam to FW if it's cause for its condition not 100% sure and declared as "really bad"

Im not sure what is it but I think my clam has it . here is the pict

pinched mantle is caused by a protozoan.

nutto, give the clam a 20min FWD.

just take RO water and watch temp to your tank water. place the clam in the RO, then take a turkey baster and gently pump water all along the shell edge and around the byssal opening.

also run some fresh carbon(1L per 100g) in a flow through canister or reactor. if you run any type of iron based phosphate removers run all the water coming from the PO4 remover through carbon as well. if you dose any trace elements or iron stop using them for now.

thank you i 'll do that tonite after the lights goes off.I wonder if it contagious to other clam in the same tank?

man !! I have another gigas that attached itself to a rock how am I gonna dip it? man this sucks.

i wouldn do anything to the other clam unless it shows signs like your Corcea

What exactly are you seeing in the picture?

To clarify a statement made earlier, FW dips will not kill all marine inverts. I have FW dipped manyt corals to eleiminate parasites, with little or no ill efect. The principle in whole is scary (to take a amrine animals and put it into freshwater), but if done properly and with suitable expeectations and research, there should be no problem.
