how to eliminate algae

Having an issue with hair algae, feather calupera algae, bubble algae and some other stuff I am not sure what it is. I will post pics later. Any thoughts on what I can put in the
PHP:
re to eat it? A tang, snails, or crabs, etc? I am here in the near future getting a reactor to run carbon and gfo to I think help with this problem?

for hair algae you can used a sea hare, mexican turbo also work too. Calupera i dont know much, but i m sure most tang will eat it. If not pull it out as much as you can. For bubble algae, a couple of emerald crabs will take care of it for sure.

I have a reactor I could use, but after testing for phosphates, I wasn't finding much of anything significant. I went w/ several turbo snails for the rocks. I'll look into a sea hare.

How bad is it?

Snails (+1 turbo), reactor, scrubbing it off of the rocks (out of the tank): YES

Emerald crab: NO. You have some nice zoas, and it would suck to see a wayward crab devour them. It doesn't happen often, but it can.

Your best bet is to get to a low nutrient system with the reactor. If you get too many snails before you start the reactor, they will starve once it is running, so don't get too carried away with them.

+1, though in a 55g one emerald crab would suffice and give him plenty to eat and not starve once it goes away and it will start to eat leftover food that ya feed the fish n coral. i would, on your water change day, get a scrub brush and suck while ya brush it off. if ya take the rocks outta tank and clean you will have dieoff that will start a mini cycle everytime, well maybe not but depending on time outta water and your cleaning style your bacteria will die and it will hurt ya in the nitrogen cycle.

another thing i remembered during the onset of warmer weather we are closer to the sun and if your tank receives any direct or indirect light from the sun through a window or such will cause a longer light cycle for the algae to grow. so keep that in mind as ya make decisions to battle the infamous algae monsters.

OT ...technically seasons are caused more by Earths 23.5deg. axial tilt...and our orientation toward sun due to this tilt... we are in aphelion (furthest away from sun) In July...which is summer in the Northern hemisphere...we are in Perihelion (closest to sun) In January of our year...Our axial rotation plays more of a role in seasons then does our distance fr. sun..But CJ I knew what you meant ;)
more sunlight, more heat (saltwater is very dense thus more heat less dissolved oxygen) yada yada WE ALL HATE ALGAE!!

Billy, what are you belly achin' about??!!? That's not that bad :)

Pluck 'n scrub!

I'd remove the bubble algae rock and try to twist them off without popping them -- let the kids chuck them in the street -- they'll like how they pop!

He won't get a cycle by removing a rock or two to scrub them.

He has 55 gallons of water, other rocks, and sand -- the solution to pollution is dilution! ...and he has other bacteria to pick up any minor die off.

Seriously, if you scrub it in some tank water in a container (then pitch the water), there won't be any appreciable die off. I've done it before, and if I had to, I'd do it again :spin3:

Here is a customer clean up crew, http://reefcleaners.org/index.php?p...ategory_id=20&option=com_virtuemart&Itemid=34
I've use them and was very happy with what they sent. Also I'm sure you've thought of this but IMO I think you need to find out why you have this problem. Maybe feeding to much, light cycle, CUC has died off, detritus collecting in the substrate and between rocks. I'm sure you've thought of this but just a thought. Try the clean up crew don't think you'll beat the price. Good Luck

if ya remove the rock to scrub yes there is, but ya stated remove into another container of water and scrub then obvious less die off then just scrubbing under the faucet or in the air over a bucket. but die off there will be. the die off is in the method. and if he scrubs a rock or two then watches his ammonia bet he gets a mini cycle. i've done it before heck in the other thread i've stated it lol. always a mini cycle its the way of the tank. no worries though unless ya do all rock under the faucet that bad idea. also up the flow or rearrange ur flow to disperse any dead spots

oh i keep forgetting to ask this feather capulera pull it and give it to me ill gladly take it from ya, or does God make a small enough tang for your tank? tangs eat it. but on another note if thats it i wouldnt worry too much about that lil bit of algae in the tank u can pluck and its probably keeping your phos down as it binding it in the algae.

Its not alot of algae but it is all over the tank. Mostly near all my cool sps corals. I had a kole tang in there before and wanted to maybe put another one in the tank. Maybe a yellow tang? Also getting my gfo/carbon reactor. Hope that will help. Also ordered a new ro membrane for my ro unit to help lower my TDS levels. Also picked up a add on DI unit to attach to my ro. Got a screaming deal on it, $25.00. Hopefully all of this will be helpful.

come on pick the capulera and give it to me lol. ill give ya my tang if ya want lol. awesome deal on the addon DI unit. where are these deals ya gotta share them with me. see ya sunday bro.

Got a special sales price with the group buy at BRS. Would love to get a tang, but i think urs is too big for my tank. lol

got the new ro membrane and DI canister installed last night and now my tds is showing at 0. Very excited. Hopefully this will help with the algae blooms and help to increase coral growth.
