How to keep your tank cool?

Well Im cycling my tank

and I turned off my heater for now

during the day temp goes up to 83 degree.night time

it goes around 78 degree....

isnt this too hot? and How can i Keep it cool without using

the Chiller. My tank is F/O

I use fans only and have metal halide lighting. Tank stays at 81 all day and around 80 at night. I have the fans on a controller so it turns on and off when needed but you can just have them come on and off with your lights if you dont have a controller.

Have the fans pointed slightly down at the surface of the water and across the tank if possible.

fans fans fans , but set them on a timer so they dont run at night when the tank dosnt need to be cooled. removing internal pumps with external ones will help if you can i would set the heater to 79 so the temp drop isnt so much

Fans work, but be prepared for a much higher evaporation rate.

Yeah I would set up an auto top off for sure. Mine uses about 10G of fresh water in 3 days. That was up to even 5G a day during the hottest part of summer!

Where is the tank located? Is it in a part of the house that tends to get warmer the other areas? I use fans as well below the tank blowing on my sump. I custom cut some plexiglass to cover some sections of the sump to help reduce evap.
