How to kill GSP

I have a patch of green star polyps that have taken over a piece of rock that I can't move (or at least will be a huge pain to move). They are starting to sting other corals and I was wondering if there was a way to kill them off with out scraping them. When I scrape them it releases a cloud of slime that I'm afraid could hurt other corals.

I will go ahead and scrape than. The reef putty is a great idea as well. Thanks.
As for the GSP stinging, it's more an issue of them just smothering everything around them. I wish I had never put them in.

lol i love my GSP they make a nice carpet. i have found it goes around my corals as most of my corals will sting them to keep them at bay.

Fire.

The only way to get rid of GSP is fire.

I've witnessed somebody covering it over with a thin layer of epoxy, only to have it come back, in some places -through- the epoxy.

I just scrubbed the heck out of it today and covered it with reef puddy. Cross my fingers.

I used a whole stick though for a 6x4 area. Anyone have an idea how long it takes to smother it so I know it's dead?

So, can they spread through the water column, like pocillopora? I have some in my sump, and I'd like to keep them there! :)

I have this same problem...what about moving a GSP covered rock into a sump for a month and let the lack of light kill it off? I know you said your rock was too big to move, but would this work if you could move it into the sump? The problem with scraping them is the live rock has so many nooks and crannies, its impossible to get it all...

I made a separate island and its starting to spread across the gravel even.

GSP sting and kill other corals. Slowly injecting them with kalk will severely slow their growth. Putting it in the sump will not kill it. If you want to kill it off of the rock, take the rock out of the tank and dry it. GSP is incredibly resilient.
