how to remove internal glass overflow box?

Hi All,
I just bought a used 48"x30"x15" rimless starfire tank and learned from the previous owner that the tank splashes a bit over the edge. So I will need to lower the overflow box just a bit, but after spending and hour trying to get the thing out, it wont budge. The tank itself is 1/2" starfire all around and the overflow box is 1/2" as well. The box is so well siliconed in place that I cant even get a razor blad between it and the tank glass... Anyone have any advice? I'm reluctant to try to break the overflow glass in the event the tank breaks along with it...
thanks,
Bill

I used a Olfa Knife (segmented knife) and razor blades to remove the glass overflows out of my sump. Took like 3 hrs each side. Just keep running the knife along the silicone and eventually you will get between the overflow and the tank.

You can also use Mineral Spirits to soften up the silicone. Don't get any on the tanks silicone -just the over flow. Its toxic, so if you use it, clean the glass after. To remove any silicone residue, use the Mineral Spirits with some fine steel wool. It wont scratch the glass. HTH

Take a fine guitar wire and tie the two ends to something you can hold onto and pull the wire through it.
