how to safely remove a sps from the base?

i purchased a sps that is attached to a cylinder shaped base.
how do i safely remove the sps from the cylinder shape base.
the base is solid. see pic.

Cut the sps off near the base. I know what its on and I've tried cutting the base off with a table saw. Its too dang solid and trying to break the base will just cause the sps to break it self.
